RIVER WALLS.
Twice a day the Thames' foreshore swells with tidal water. To descend at low tide is to enter a man-made world fashioned by nature. Flood defences - river walls - and moorings abound, many long since forgotten. Decay is ever present. Cut adrift from the hubbub of the city by sheer walls, it offers a refuge. The walls, hung with fixtures, demand close interpretation.
As a patient observer, I unravel exciting juxtapositions, bold shapes, patterns, textures and shadows. I am drawn to the subtleties of smaller details and enjoy bringing the fabric of a surface to life. This panel depicts the raw reality of what I frequently observe, seeing beyond the original identity of the engineering.
May I present to you my interpretation of minimalism, focusing on monochrome details, separated from place, while walking on an ebb tide.
